SKIN CARE

Hello Lovelies,

Thank you for being so patient with me for this post. It’s been a little hectic lately.

When talking about skin care and handing out advice, it is really important to know that my advice isn’t for everyone. What I may do you my face might cause a break out for some. But, there are a few things that apply to every single person. These little things don’t involve putting a single thing on your face.

You all know that I am a strong advocate for healthy eating and keeping up a consistent lifestyle. By doing that, not only will your body improve, but your skin will follow suit.

Working out.

Constantly exercising increases the blood flow in your body, this helps nourish your skin cells, keeping them healthy by reducing the acne. When you exercise, you sweat. When you steam your face, you sweat. See the correlation? This isn’t some hullabaloo that I found on the internet but something that I witnessed in my own skin.

At the peak of my exam season I didn’t have the energy to go to the gym as often, or at all. I found that my skin looked dehydrated and tired each week that I missed a session. The minute I went back, the glow appeared.

Now let’s run away from all the scientific jargon. Exercising makes you feel happy and refreshed. You feel good about yourself after a workout. That distracts you from constantly staring at your skin on a daily basis. The less you obsess about the spots, the more you care about your internal health. And after a while, you’ll realise that your spots are fading.

More so, the climate that you are in tells you what you should be doing to your skin. During winter or the cold season, you should be doing a lot less to your face. Your pores close up, thus when you put a lot of product on your face there is a massive build up. But do not forget to hydrate your skin and moisturise. This goes for people with oily skin too. Just because your skin is oily, doesn’t mean you need to dry it out and not moisturise!

During summer or the hot season, hydrate your skin. Your pores are wide open and need to be nourished. You can use the micellar water or tone with rose water or set with rose water. Hydration during summer is key.

Eating

Your nutrition is vital when it comes to your skin. What you put in your body will show on your skin. If you’re eating junk food consisting in high sugar and fat on a daily basis, the oils will come out on your skin. If you’re caring for your body by eating fruits, vegetables and drinking lots of water, that too will be reflected on your skin.

Be mindful that my advice may not work for those with cystic acne. That is a completely different matter that may require medication and or a specialist.

My skin care routine.

The image above shows what I use on a daily basis.

  1. Wash with Arebone Deep Pore Blemish Cleanser

  2. Tone exfoliating blemish pads

  3. Day time: Vitamin C serum

  4. Night time: Soothing night Mask

  5. Calming lotion (to put on specific spots)

  6. Blemish lotion

Night : Mario Badescu drying lotion

  1. Moisturise: pure unrefined Shea Butter.

The Mario Badescu Drying Lotion

That tiny pink bottle is my saving grace!

Do you ever get those pesty little pimples that appear one after the other? Right after one has JUST cleared? It really drives me insane.

Now, the drying lotion is a pink solution that you put on specific pimples or dark spots over night. It’s magic is that it brings up the pimple one more time and dries it out completely. Spot- gone. Dark mark- gone. It will not work over night but over a week or two the spot should have cleared up.

This solution is great especially when you have a pimple that is coming up but not fully formed. It basically speeds up the process and extracts the external bacteria as well as the internal bacteria which would normally cause recurring pimples.

Although like all skincare products you must use it consistently for it to work. And be sure to test it out on a tiny spot before you put it all over your other pimples and marks.

(That’s the little secret I have to get rid of my dark spots)

Men

For the men asking about the few essentials you may need for your skin : 1. Micellar water (remove internal dirt) 2. A toner : easiest and mildest one: rose water 3. A wash/ cleanser (varies depending on your skin type) 4. Moisturiser : pure unrefined Shea butter

On a very hot day, I spray rose water to keep my skin hydrated.

After a long day spent outside, I put a few drops of Micellar water on a cotton pad to wipe out dirt that may have been collected by my skin throughout the day then carry out my routine as usual.

Once or twice a week I use a pepper mint mask from Lush, which helps to hydrate my skin. And on a day when I need an extra glow, say when I’m going out or have a photoshoot, I mix 1-part pure manuka honey with 2-parts Aloe Vera gel and apply it to my skin for 15 minutes.

I do hope that my little skin care secrets help you.

Feel free to contact me with any questions you may have on my Instagram or drop me an email.
