Hello lovely ladies,
As the title states this is a girl talk. This one specifically is on what to eat and what not to eat and do, during your time of the month. We all know first hand that these couple of days can be hell, but I have a few tips on how you can make your week, a little better.
Some get terrible back pains, headaches, cramps, fatigue runny tummies and so on. Its normal, and I promise you even the fittest of fit and healthy people get them too. But sometimes, it may be caused by what you’re eating on your period. Like, excessive salt intake causes bloating around that time.
I came to learn that you need to take special care of yourself whilst you’re menstruating. Cutting certain things out of your daily routine, doing certain exercises eating differently just to ease the pain you may be going through.
What exercises should I do?
Getting out of bed is one thing, but working out is a whole other level, trust me girl I know. But this is good for you *motherly voice*.
First thing you do when you wake up is stretch: stand up, bring your arms together and lean backwards, arching your back. My best-friend once told me to avoid hunching my back and going into foetal position even though my body desperately wants to. Curling up into a little ball will only make things worse especially if you have aggressive cramps. Stretch it out, pull your body until the pain subsides.
This is where the hard part comes in: core exercises. You don’t need to go to the gym, just place a yoga mat in your room:
Crunches x10
Flutter kicks x10
Reverse crunches x10
Sit up twist x10
Repeat that three times and do it at your own pace. This could be a warm up or a whole workout depending on how severe the pain is. But this should get you started.
We need to work out for a few reasons: it boosts your mood, enhances your blood circulation, eases cramps, reduces your cramps and headaches and it may regulate your cycle. Bear in mind that every woman is different and we all have different bodies, if exercise is near to impossible during your cycle, consult with your doctor before doing any form of exercise. And now we move on to the fun stuff.
What should I eat?
There are a few things you should add in your shopping cart around this time:
Whole grains (rice/flour)
Leafy greens (kale/spinach/broccoli)
Yogurt ( A LOT OF IT)
High water content fruits (Pineapples/ apples/ watermelon)
Dark chocolate
Fatty fish (salmon/ tuna)
Berries (blueberries/ strawberries/ raspberries/)
What should I avoid?
COFFEE COFFEE COFFEE
Carbonated drinks
Processed foods (fast food)
Legumes
Refined grains
High-fat foods
Ps. Start taking evening primrose regularly, it is a supplement that you can find at any local chemist. It helps with hormone balances, reduces the intensity of your cramps, helps keep up a regular menstrual cycle. In order for it to work you need to take it every day.
I hope this helps, see you soon! xx
